On a wet afternoon in Austria in 2001, I had the idea for this project. Bringing together photographs taken between 1999 and 2006, I have recorded the landscapes, villages and cities of central Europe at a time when the eastern and western halves of the continent were drawing back together following the end of communism, with the aim of exploring the idea of central Europe as a single entity.
